Valdosta, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks fell to Valdosta State 6-5 in the final road game of the season Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Shorter moves to 16-24 on the season and 11-18 in the GSC; while the Blazers improve to 36-9 overall and 22-7 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks opened the scoring in the second as
Dani Lukas delivered her second homerun of the season to left center for the 1-0 score. Only to have Valdosta State tally three in the third to take a 3-1 advantage. Before,
Kaylee Combs tallied her third homerun of the weekend to right field to cut the lead to one, 3-2, in the fourth.
The Blazers countered with a run in each the fourth and fifth to make it a 5-2 game. Shorter answered, however, with three runs in the sixth to tie the game. First, as Lukas delivered an RBI single to bring in
Carson Carriker. Then as
Abi Valdes tallied a two-run single for the 5-5 score. Valdosta State earned the win with a run in the sixth for the 6-5 final score.
Payton Lippert took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits with a walk through two innings of relief. While,
Hannah Draper made the start, allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and strikeout though four innings.
Maddie Hunt and Lukas finished with two hits each; while Lukas and Valdes added two RBI apiece.
The Lady Hawks close out the regular season at Alto Park with a non-conference doubleheader with Young Harris on Tuesday. Before welcoming longtime rival, Lee, to town for the final GSC series of the year; which will determine who gets the final spot in the conference tournament.
