ROME --Â The Lady Hawks fell to Montevallo in both games of the Friday doubleheader by 6-5 scores in each.

With the losses, Shorter moves to 15-20 on the season and 10-15 in the GSC; while the Falcons moves to 26-11 overall and 15-10 in conference.

GAME 1: UM 6, SU 5
After falling behind, 6-0, the Lady Hawks came back in the fifth to cut the lead to one.
Abi Valdes led off the inning with a single, and after back-to-back outs, Shorter tallied consecutive hits to load the bases. Before,
Taylor Martin was hit with a pitch to bring in the first run.
Kaylee Combs followed with her first career grand slam to make it a one run game, 6-5. The Lady Hawks then threated for more, putting two runners on, only to have a pop out end the inning and the rally.
Shorter looked to add more in the seventh, putting runners on second and third, but weren't able to push the tying run across as Montevallo held on for the 6-5 win.

Payton Lippert took the loss, allowing six runs – four earned – on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts through four innings. While,
Hannah Draper pitched the final three innings, keeping the Falcons scoreless on two hits.

Tiffany Holland and Combs each finished with two hits in the game.

GAME 2: UM 6, SU 5
Montevallo scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Only to have the Lady Hawks counter with two in the third to gain the advantage as
Maddie Hunt delivered an RBI double and Martin added a sacrifice fly to bring in
Taylor Ann Oda.
Amelia Olive then made it a 3-1 game in the fourth with an RBI ground out.

The Falcons answered with a pair of runs to tie the game in the fifth. But, the Lady Hawks were there with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, as Hunt scored on a ground out from Martin for the 4-3 game.

The difference in the game, however, came in the sixth as Montevallo struck for two runs to take a 6-4 advantage. Shorter attempted a comeback in the seventh but was only able to get one run – on a single from
Tiffany Holland – for the 6-5 final score.

Julie Sanderlin took the loss, allowing five runs on three this with two walks through 1.1 innings of relief. Draper made the start, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and a strikeout through four innings. While, Lippert pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing a hit and two walks.

Hunt finished 3-4 at the plate with an RBI; while Holland and
Dani Lukas added two hits apiece.
