Florence, Ala. --Â The Lady Hawks fell to No. 6 North Alabama in a doubleheader Friday afternoon. Game scores were 4-0 and 8-2, respectively.
With the losses, Shorter moves to 10-11 on the season and 5-5 in conference play; while the Lions improve to 19-2 overall and 11-0 in the GSC.
GAME 1: UNA 4, SU 0
The opener remained scoreless until the fourth when North Alabama tallied four runs to pull away. The Lady Hawks threatened in each of the remaining innings, stranding a baserunner in each, but weren't able to push a run across as the Lions held on for the 4-0 win.
Hannah Draper took the loss, allowing four runs on twelve hits with three walks and a strikeout.
Tiffany Holland finished the game 2-3 at the plate; while
Kaylee Combs and
Abi Valdes each recorded a hit, as well.
GAME 2: UNA 8, SU 2
North Alabama once again struck first, scoring four in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Shorter answered in the four to cut the lead in half on Combs' first career homerun, plating
Taylor Martin for the 4-2 score. Only to have the Lions tack on four unanswered runs for the 8-2 final.
Payton Lippert took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on ten hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Combs finished 2-3 at the plate with two RBI; while Martin,
Dani Lukas and
Maddie Hunt each added a hit.
