Softball splits with Georgia College

Milledgeville, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks bounced back in game two to earn a split with Georgia College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play on the road. Game scores were 11-2 and 5-3, respectively.

Shorter moves to 10-9 on the season; while the Bobcats move to 11-9 overall.

GAME 1: GC 11, SU 2
Georgia College took an early lead in the opener, scoring five runs in the second to pull away. The Lady Hawks broke through in the third for a run as Carson Carriker delivered her first career homerun to left field for the 5-1 score. Only to have the Bobcats tack on six in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 11-1. Shorter added a final run in the fifth, on a sacrifice fly from Carriker, for the 11-2 final score.

Julie Sanderlin took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout through 2.2 innings of work. Payton Lippert pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing a run on three this with a walk.

Carriker finished the game 2-2 at the plate with two RBI.

GAME 2: SU 5, GC 3
The Lady Hawks opened the scoring in game two with a run in the first on a sacrifice fly from Kaylee Combs. Only to have the Georgia College answer in the second to take the 2-1 on a two-run single from Hannah Coursey. Shorter countered, however, with a run in the fourth – on an RBI double from Dani Lukas – and three in the fifth to make it a 5-2 game – on RBI hits from Tiffany Holland, Carriker and Combs. The Bobcats scored a final run in the fifth for the 5-3 score.

Lippert earned the win, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Maddie Hunt finished the game 2-3 at the plate with a run scored; while Combs tallied a hit and two RBI.

UP NEXT
The Lady Hawks will be back in Gulf South Conference action this weekend as they travel to Florence, Ala. to take on North Alabama.
