Ticer sets single-game saves record in Hawks loss

ROME -- The Hawks fell to Notre Dame de Namur, 9-6, Thursday evening at Ben Brady Field.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 1-6 on the season; while the Argonauts improve to 2-5 overall.

The Hawks struck first as Logan Miller found the back of the net with 12:43 to play in the first. Only to have NDNU answer with three consecutively to take a 3-1 lead with 8:58 to go. Matt McHugh countered for Shorter, on a pass from Samuel Buchanan, at the 5:10 mark to cut into the lead. Before the Argonauts added a fourth goal in the quarter to take a 4-2 advantage into the second.

Shorter opened the scoring in the second quarter as Jordan Coates netted a pass from William Millwood to make it a 4-3 game midway through the period. NDNU added a goal just before halftime to hold a 5-3 lead at the break.

The Hawks quickly got things going in the third quarter, tying the game at 5-5 with 11:00 to play on back-to-back goals from Coates and Ben Long. Only to have the Argonauts tally four straight to pull away, making it a 9-5 game on a goal from Andrew Kofoed with 6:12 to play in the fourth. Shorter added a final goal in the fourth – from Tate Tatum – for the 9-6 final score.

Notre Dame de Namur tallied 58 shots for the game with 43 being on target. The difference, however, in the game came as Shorter goalie, Richard Ticer posted a DII high 34 saves in the game to keep the Hawks within reach. The saves total bettered the Shorter record by one – set by Garry Robinson last season against Emmanuel.

For the game, Shorter posted 28 shots – half on goal – with 19 ground balls and three face-off wins.

Coates and McHugh each finished with two points. Nicholas Wameling led the Argonauts with three goals.

Shorter will return to action in their first-ever Great Lakes Valley matchup as they welcome UIndy to Ben Brady Field for a 1:00pm start on Saturday.
