ROME --Â The Lady Hawks turned in one of their most complete games of the season as they tallied an 80-62 win over Christian Brothers Thursday evening.
With the win, Shorter improves to 6-16 overall and 4-12 in the GSC; while the Lady Bucs move to 9-13 on the season and 8-8 in conference play.
After a little back and forth to start the game, with CBU tying the game at seven on a layup from Courtney Banks with just over three minutes to play in the first quarter, the Lady Hawks tallied a 7-2 run to close out the period with a 14-9 advantage. From there, Shorter never trailed as they continued to build their lead; extending it to as many as 13 in second half as
BreAnna Thompson netted a layup with 3:23 to play in the second. The Lady Bucs then turned in a 7-2 run to close out the period and cut the lead to eight, 30-22, at the halftime break.
Shorter opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run, to make it a 14-point game, 36-22, with 8:19 on the clock as
Tatum Ragsdale drained a three on a pass from
Jackie Hudson. Over the next few minutes, CBU cut into the lead, but wouldn't get any closer than twelve – on a free throw from Banks with 7:29 to play. The Lady Hawks made one final push to put the game away, using a three-minute 11-2 run midway through the fourth quarter to extend their lead to twenty-eight, 80-52, on pair of free throws from Thompson. Before, the Lady Bucs closed out the game scoring the final ten points, for the 80-62 final score.
In total the Lady Hawks shot 48 percent for the game, including 45 percent from three-point range. While, Christian Brothers tallied a 54 percent shooting night. For the game, Shorter forced 27 CBU turnover, resulting in 35 points.
Bianca Thornton led the Lady Hawks' offense with 23 points, to go along with 19 from
Jasmine Gaines, 16 from Ragsdale and 10 from Thompson; who finished with a double-double by adding 10 rebounds.
Kenszie Jones led Christian Brothers with 15 points, while Banks added 14.
Shorter will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they host No. 14 Union in a 2:00pm start from the Winthrop-King Centre.
