Hawks fall to Christian Brothers

ROME -- The Hawks fell to Christian Brothers, 78-62, Thursday night as they kicked off the final homestand of the season.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 3-21 overall and 3-13 in the GSC; while the Bucs improve to 18-6 on the season and 10-6 in conference play.

After some back and forth to start things off CBU pulled away and put the game out of reach from the Hawks. Shorter lead 17-16 after a layup from Jacob Newman capped a 8-3 run for Shorter midway through the first half, but it wouldn't stand as the Bucs countered with a 10-0 run to pull away; leading by eleven, 41-30, at halftime.

In the second half, Christian Brother built their lead to as many as 29, using a 12-0 run to extend their advantage. Only to have the Hawks answer with a 20-1 run over the next seven minutes to cut the lead to as little as twelve, 64-52, with 6:41 to play. Amonte Potter sparked the run with a jumper, before adding eight of Shorter's next 18 points. TayVaughn Major tallied six points during the span, as well. Through the final minutes the teams traded baskets, but the lead was too much for the Hawks to overcome – despite converting the final six points of the game – as CBU held on for the 78-62 win.

For the game, the Hawks shot just under 41 percent; while connecting for 22 percent of their three-point attempts. While, the Bucs tallied a 49 percent shooting percentage, and finished at 39 percent from beyond the arc.

Potter led the offensive effort for Shorter, with 22 points. To go along with 14 from Major and 10 from Newman. Both, Josh Burnett and Joe Russell, added eight points.

Joe Laravie led the Bucs with 22 points, as well. And was joined in double-figures by Jeff Larkin with 11 and Adam Dieball with 14.

The Hawks will look to get back in the win column Saturday as they welcome Union to the Winthrop-King Centre for a 4:00pm start. The Bulldogs won the first meeting of the teams a few weeks ago, 90-81.
