ROME --Â The Hawks fell to Mars Hill 17-6 Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Shorter moves to 1-4 on the season; while the Mountain Lions improve to 1-3 overall.
Mars Hill jumped out to a big lead, scoring the first ten goals of the contest to pull away. The Hawks finally broke through in the second, to cut into the lead, as
Jacob Woodard and
Tate Tatum went back to back while Shorter was man-up. Only to have the Mountain Lions answer to extend their advantage. Shorter came alive in the fourth, tallying four goals in the final six minutes  – three from
Logan Miller and one from
William Millwood – but the lead was too much, as Mars Hill held on for the 17-6 win.
For the game, Shorter tallied 39 shots with 22 on target. While, winning 14 of 25 face-offs and tallying 22 ground balls and 21 total saves. Individually, Miller led the offense with three goals.
Jake Mathews finished the day 8-16 on the face-off; whereas
Chase Rogers tallied a 6-8 day on the face-off with two assists.
Garry Robinson made the start for Shorter, tallying eight saves through the first 24:33 of the game, before giving way to
Richard Ticer for the remainder as he left the game with an injury. Ticer added 13 saves through the final 35:27.
The Mountain Lions were led by Dima Ferreira, who finished with 3 goals and 3 assists in the game.
The Hawks will look to get back on track Friday, March 3, as they travel to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial in a 3:30pm start.
