Tusculum tops Men's Lacrosse, 24-7

Greeneville, Tenn. -- The Hawks fell to Tusculum, 24-7, on a soggy Friday night on the road.

Shorter (0-3) scored first, taking a 1-0 lead with 12:38 to play in the opening period on a score from Jordan Coates – assisted by Chase Rogers. Only to have Tusculum (1-1) answer moments later as Chris Ryan found the back of the net. The Hawks countered later in the frame to regain the lead, on a goal from Tate Tatum. With the Pioneers responding with one of the own to take a 2-2 tie into the second period.

Where, Tusculum scored five straight to jump out to a 7-2 lead midway through the frame. Shorter broke through at the 5:05 mark in the second with the third goal of the game to cut into the lead when William Millwood netted a pass from Jacob Woodard. The Pioneers added a final goal before the half to take an 8-3 lead into the break.

Tusculum kept the momentum in the third, as they tacked on eight goals to extend their lead. While, the Hawks managed two – from Millwood and Tatum – to move to the final fifteen minutes trailing 16-5.

The Pioneers opened the fourth with two goals to make it an 18-5 score, before Shorter found the back of the net for the first time in the period and third from Millwood with 11:47 remaining. Tusculum tacked on six more before time expired, while Jacob Woodard added a final goal for the Hawks for the 24-7 score.

In total, the Pioneers held a 57-19 advantage in shots and a 43-13 lead in shots on goal. While, the Hawks goalie duo of Garry Robinson and Richard Ticer tallied 19 saves between them.

???????Millwood led the offense with three goals and an assist; while Tatum added two goals and J. Woodard recorded a goal and two assists.

Defensively, Ticer posted 11 saves to Robinson's eight. Chris Woodard led the way with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

The Hawks remain on the road next week as they travel to Emmanuel on Wednesday, February 21, for a 4:00pm start.
