ROME --Â The Lady Hawks opened the 2018 season with a 19-2 setback to Young Harris Saturday afternoon from Ben Brady Field.
The Mountain Lions wasted no time getting things started, scoring five goals in the first five minutes to set the tone for the game. And quickly added to it, before Shorter got on the board for the first time on the afternoon on a free position goal from
Bailey Skiles to make it a 7-1 game with just under twenty minutes to play in the opening period.
Young Harris extended their lead further moments later and opening up a 15-1 game with two minutes to play. The Lady Hawks managed to find the back of the net for a second time in the period just before the halftime break on an open look from
Allie Perry to take a 15-2 score into the break.
The Mountain Lions added four goals in the second half for the 19-2 final score.
In total, YHC held a 32-3 advantage in shots, with a 25-3 lead in shots on goal. While winning 19 of 22 draws from the game.
For Shorter, Perry, Skiles and Aubry Geiger each registered a shot. With Perry and
Tayler Ferqueron leading the way in ground balls with four apiece. On defense, Ferqueron and
Maria Hansen each tallied two caused turnovers, and
Peyton Reid posted six saves in goal.
The Lady Hawks will have two weeks off before returning to action on the road at Palm Beach Atlantic on February 24.
