Late push leads PBA over Women's Lacrosse

ROME -- The Lady Hawks fell to Palm Beach Atlantic, 20-11, Saturday afternoon on the road.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 0-2 on the season; while the Sailfish improve to 1-2 overall.

After falling behind, 3-0, the Lady Hawks tallied their first score of the game as Aubrey Geiger found the back of the net at the 25:36 mark in the first half. PBA countered with two to extend their lead, only to have Shorter come back and tie the game moments later on two goals from Geiger, and one each from Jessie Hilliard and Allie Perry. Tied at five, the teams traded goals with PBA holding a 9-6 lead at halftime.

After the break, Shorter tacked on two quick goals, from Perry and McKinley Puckett, to make it an 9-8 game. Only to have the Sailfish tally four straight to pull away. Perry interrupted the spurt with her fourth goal of the game – to make it a 13-9 score with 24:41 to go. PBA again, found four straight to extent their advantage, making it a 17-9 game with a goal from former Lady Hawk, Morgan LeBlanc, at the 9:27 mark in the frame. Over the final minutes Shorter added two; while the Sailfish tacked on three for the 20-11 final score.  

The Lady Hawks finished with 30 shots in the game, with 21 on target. Both Geiger and Perry finished with four goals in the game – with all four of Perry's coming off free position attempts and three additional players scoring their first goals of the season.  Tayler Ferqueron posted a team high eight draw controls; while Maria Hansen turned in a team high four ground balls. Peyton Reid finished with eight saves in goal, through sixty minutes of play.

Grace Bartlinksi led the Sailfish with six goals and two assists; while Dom Barber finished with five goals and three assists.

The Lady Hawks will look to get into the win column for the first time in 2018 as they welcome Alabama Huntsville to Ben Brady Field, Wednesday, February 28, for a 3:00pm start.
