Cleveland, Tenn. -- The Lady Hawks fell to Lee 71-55 Saturday afternoon on the road in the first meeting of the teams this season.
With the loss, Shorter moves to 4-11 on the season and 2-7 in the GSC; while the Lady Flames improve to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The first half was back and forth, with the teams trading baskets and the lead throughout with Lee holding a slim 33-31 advantage at the halftime break.
The Lady Flames opened the third quarter with a basket to extend their lead, only to have the Lady Hawks answer to regain the advantage with a 6-0 run to make it a 37-35 game in their favor. Lee followed with a layup to tie the game and from there pulled away to earn the win; posting a 16-1 run to close the period with a 53-38 advantage. Shorter came back in the final period, matching the Lady Flames point for point, but the lead was too much to overcome as Lee was able to hold off the Lady Hawks to maintain the lead and close out the win, 71-55.
Jasmine Gaines led the offensive effort, turning in a career high 25 points, while
Bianca Thornton added 12 points and
BreAnna Thompson just missed a double-double with eight points and ten rebounds.
Erin Walsh led the Lady Flames with 13 points.
Shorter will be back in action next Saturday as they welcome Mississippi College to the Winthrop-King Centre for a 6:00 PM start.
