Hawks fall to Lee on the road

Cleveland, Tenn. -- The Hawks fell to Lee, 91-70, on the road Saturday evening in Cleveland, Tenn.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 2-15 overall and 2-7 in the GSC; while the Flames improve to 10-6 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.

Lee pulled away early, using an 8-0 run in the opening minutes to make it a ten-point game just before the first media timeout. Shorter then answered with a pair of threes, from Drew Thomas and Joseph Bobbitt, to close the gap and cut the lead to four, 13-9. Only to have Lee counter to extend their advantage before closing out the half on a 15-2 run to take a 52-26 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Flames extended their lead to thirty-four (69-35) on a dunk from Chase Cullen with 12:00 to play. Before the Hawks turned things around, outscoring the home team through the remainder of the half and using a 17-5 run to cut the lead to twenty-two (74-22) with 6:46 to play as Jacob Newman netted a pair of free throws. Through the final minutes of the game, the teams traded baskets to keep the lead mostly unchanged as Lee held on for the 91-70 win.

The Hawks finished the night, shooting 39 percent from the field, including 46 percent from the beyond the arc. Thomas led the offense with 21 points, followed by Amonte Potter with 19 and Newman with 10.

Michael McGuirk and Jason Landman each finished with 15 points for Lee; who shot 60 percent for the game.

The Hawks will look to get back on track next Thursday, January 18, as they host Mississippi College in an 8:00 PM start from the Winthrop-King Centre.
