Lady Hawks sweep doubleheader at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS -- The Lady Hawks swept the doubleheader with Christian Brothers Friday afternoon, taking the opener 5-1, before winning the finale 3-1.

Shorter improves to 27-22 on the season and 16-15 in conference play; while the Lady Bucs slip to 6-43 overall and 0-32 in the GSC.

In game one, CBU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on RBI single from Sierra Anderson, but that would be all the offense they would get as the Lady Hawks went on to tally five unanswered runs to earn the win.

Shorter tied the game in the fourth on Savannah Thomas' second homerun of the year, before breaking through for four runs in the fifth for the 5-1 score. Maddie Hunt got the score started with an RBI double to left field, plating Ashley Langel; who was pinch running for Hailey Baswell. Kameron Carter then followed with a double to left field, bringing in Carson Carriker and Hunt, for the 4-1 score. Then, Dani Lukas brought in Carter for the final run of the game on a single up the middle.

Payton Lippert went the distance in the win, turning in a complete game performance; allowing one run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Carter finished the game 3-4 at the plate with two RBI; while Carriker and Thomas each tallied two hits.

Shorter never trailed in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the first when Tiffany Holland scored on a sacrifice fly from Carter. Before making it a 2-0 game in the second on an RBI double from Taylor Martin.

CBU broke the shutout in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Alexis Seward. Only to have the Lady Hawks regain the two-run advantage, 3-1, in the third on an RBI single from Lukas.

Hannah Draper earned the win; allowing one run on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout through 5.1 innings. Kalei Clark pitched the final 1.2 shutout innings, retiring each of the five batters she faced.

Five different players recorded one hit in the game.

The Lady Hawks close out the regular season Saturday afternoon, and with a win will secure their third straight appearance in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. Game time is set for 1:00pm ET.
