West Georgia tops Softball, 7-5

ROME -- The struggles continued for the Lady Hawks Sunday afternoon as they fell to West Georgia in the series finale, 7-5, in ten innings.

With the loss, Shorter slips to 21-18 on the season and 10-11 in conference play; while the Wolves improve to 19-17 overall and 8-13 in the GSC.

The Lady Hawks scored first, taking a 4-0 lead in the third inning as Ericka Bynum brought in Tiffany Holland on a single through the right side, before coming in – along with Dani Lukas – as Kameron Carter reached on a long fly to left field that was dropped. Carter then scored one batter later, on an RBI single from Peyton Barthel for the 4-0 score.

The Wolves answered in their next at bat with a run, and added two more in the fifth to cut the Shorter's lead to 4-3. Only to have the Lady Hawks tack on some insurance in the fifth on an RBI double from Bynum.

Down to their last at bat, West Georgia rallied in the seventh for two runs to tie the game at 5-5. And, used a two run 10th, to earn the win 7-5.

Kalei Clark took the loss, allowing two runs – one earned on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout through 3.2 innings of relief work. Payton Lippert made the start, going 6.1 innings; allowing five runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

???????Bynum and Holland each posted two hits on the afternoon; while Bynum and Carter finished with two RBI apiece.

The Lady Hawks will look get back in the win column next weekend as they travel to Delta State for a three-game, GSC series. Games are scheduled to begin at 2:00pm ET on Saturday and Sunday from Cleveland, Miss.
