ROME -- The Lady Hawks won the series over West Alabama with a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
The win improves Shorter to 24-21 on the season and 13-14 in conference play; while the Tigers move to 20-26 overall and 10-17 in the GSC.
The Lady Hawks took the lead in the third inning as
Savannah Thomas delivered a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Ashley Lange; who pinch ran for
Ericka Bynum. Only to have West Alabama tie the game in the fourth on a solo homerun to left field from Audrey Diekmann.
Shorter regained the lead, 2-1, in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from
Abi Valdes, plating
Taylor Martin; who reached base earlier in the inning on an error by the first baseman. Before, making it a 3-1 game in the fifth inning on an infield single from Thomas that brought in Bynum.
Shorter tallied four hits on the day with Bynum accounting for two;
Maddie Hunt and Thomas recorded the other two.
Kalei Clark earned the win after coming in to pitch in the fourth, in relief of
Hannah Draper. Through 3.2 innings she held the Tigers scoreless on five hits with four strikeouts. Draper worked the first 3.1 innings; allowing one run on three hits.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action for the final time at Alto Park for the year next weekend when they welcome West Florida to Rome for the three game series.
