Clinton, Miss. -- The Lady Hawks earned the series win over Mississippi College, topping the Lady Choctaws 5-3 Sunday afternoon.
Shorter improves to 14-7 overall and 6-3 in the conference play; while MC goes to 10-10 on the year and 4-5 in the Gulf South Conference.
The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as
Tiffany Holland scored on a fielder's choice and as
Maddie Hunt came in on a sacrifice fly from
Kameron Carter.
And, added to it in the fourth with three runs. First as
Taylor Martin scored on an RBI single from
Carson Carriker and then as
Ericka Bynum delivered a 2-run single, plating Carriker and Holland.
Mississippi College cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a 2-run homer from Kristen Qualls, and tacked on a final run in the sixth on a solo homerun from Tylan Buckley, for the 5-3 final score.
Kalei Clark earned the win, her fifth of the season; allowing two earned runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout through five innings of work. While,
Payton Lippert earned her first career save, after pitching the final two innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Monday, March 6, when they welcome Palm Beach Atlantic to Alto Park for a non-conference, in-region doubleheader beginning at 4:00pm.
