Young Harris takes two from Softball

Young Harris, Ga. -- Young Harris swept the Lady Hawks in a non-conference doubleheader on the road Wednesday afternoon; winning the opener 3-1 and taking the finale 3-2.

The Mountain Lions scored first in game one, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jeanie Perrucci scored on steal and Murphy Davis delivered an RBI single through the left side.

Shorter (21-12) cut the lead in half in the fifth inning with their lone run of the game when Ashley Langel – pinch running for Taylor Ann Oda – scored on a passed ball.

Young Harris (25-7) added a final run in the bottom of the fifth for the 3-2 score.

The Lady Hawks rallied in their last at-bat, loading the bases on three consecutive hits, but were left scoreless as the next three at-bats resulted in outs.

Hannah Draper took the loss, to move to 6-5 on the season, allowing two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts through 4.2 innings of work.

Shorter scored first in game two as Tiffany Holland came in on a throwing error in the first inning, after reaching base on a single up the middle to lead off the game.

The Mountain Lions tied the game in the third with a run, and took the lead in the fourth with another. Only to have the Lady Hawks tie the game 2-2 in their next at-bat as Maddie Hunt led off with a triple and came in on a sacrifice fly from Ericka Bynum.

Shorter had a chance to take the lead in the seventh, but stranded Holland at third to end the inning. Young Harris, however, rallied in the bottom of the inning for a run on one hit to earn the win 3-2.

Kalei Clark took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout through 3.2 innings of relief work.

Holland led the offense with five hits on the afternoon; while Peyton Barthel, Carson Carriker, Oda and Abi Valdes finished with two hits apiece.

Shorter will be back in action Friday evening in the doubleheader of a three-game series at Alabama Huntsville. Games are set to begin at 6:00pm ET.
