Lady Hawks fall in season finale

Pensacola, Fla. -- The Lady Hawks season came to an end Saturday afternoon as they fell to West Florida, 69-65, in the final game of the year.

Shorter finishes the season with an 8-19 overall mark and a 7-15 record in conference play; while the top-seeded Argos improve 23-5 on the year and 18-4 in the GSC.

For the game four players finished in double figures for the Lady Hawks; led by Taylor Adams' 18. Jackie Hudson added 12, while Kayla Tillie posted 11 and Raven Fair chipped in with 10. Adams and Hudson each added eight rebounds, as well.

After taking the lead in the first half, the Argos added to it in the second; leading by as many as ten in the frame when Toni Brewer netted a layup midway through. But, the Lady Hawks answered, cutting the lead to two on a layup from Fair with 1:19 to play to cap off an 8-0 run. And, in total, over the final four minutes of the quarter Shorter outscored West Florida 20-5; to move into halftime with the Argos holding a 35-30 lead.

In the third quarter, West Florida held the Lady Hawks to just eight points, while scoring 14 of their own to take an eleven points lead, 49-38, into the final ten minutes.

While in the fourth the Lady Hawks made things interesting, taking the lead, 63-62, on a pair of free throws from Adams with just over a minute to play. At the beginning of the quarter, the Argos extended their lead to sixteen on a jumper from Katie O'Neal with 6:21 to go. But, from there Shorter began chipping away; posting a 21-4 run to take the lead.

The Argos regained the lead, 64-63, on a jumper from Katie Bobos, and over the final seconds converted five free throws to hold on for the win, 69-65.

Courtney Meyer and Brewer each finished with a double-double; Meyer with 14 points and 16 rebounds, and Brewer added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bobos just missed a double-double with 9 points and 15 rebounds.
