ROME -- The Hawks got back in the win column Wednesday afternoon, topping Clark Atlanta, 11-0, in a non-conference, in region game at the Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
Shorter moves 7-3 on the season; while the Panthers slip to 3-5 overall.
Jack Leech got the Hawks on the board in the bottom of the second with his second homerun of the year, plating
Dustin Lawson.
Shorter added to it with four in the third to make it a 6-0 game as
Blaze Vazquez delivered an RBI single to bring in Isaiah Madella. Leech walked with the bases loaded to plate
Bailey Gerstner; before
Nate Butterworth singled to bring in
Ty Cherry and Vazquez for the final runs of the inning.
In the fifth, the Hawks once again put up four. First, as Butterworth cleared the bases on a single, before advancing to third on an error; plating
Patrick Sanderson, Leech and Lawson.
Luis Acevedo then followed later in the inning with an RBI single to centerfield to bring in
Raul Cortes, who reach base on a fielder's choice, bringing Shorter's lead to 10-0.
Hugh York scored the final run of the game in the eighth on a single from Gerstner, for the 11-0 score.
Butterworth finished the day 2-3 at the plate with 4 RBI; while Gerstner was 3-4 with two walks.
Jerry Liang earned the win, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeout over four innings of work.
Harrison Shubert added three strikeouts in two inning of work, and
Banks Woodley struck out two of the three batters he faced.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 25, when they begin a three game series at North Alabama in Florence, Ala. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00pm EST.
