ROME --Â The Lady Hawks earned their first win of the season Wednesday evening, topping Carver College 80-56 in the 21st Annual Breast Cancer Classic from the Winthrop-King Centre.
With the win, Shorter moves to 1-2 on the year.
Tatum Ragsdale paced the offense, turning in 18 points. While,
Bianca Thornton and
BreAnna Thompson each reached double figures, as well. Thornton with a double-double of 13 points, 10 rebounds and Thompson with 10 points. She also added six rebounds.
Roni Richardson just missed double-figures on the night, netting 9 points; whereas,
Jackie Hudson was two rebounds away from double-figures on that end.
The Lady Hawks pulled away early, and didn't let up; taking a 38-22 lead into halftime. And adding to it in the third to bring their advantage to 30 on a layup from Ragsdale with just over a minute to play in the period – the largest lead of the night.
For the game, Shorter shot 40% for the game, but were cold from beyond the arc as they converted just four of 26 attempts. While, finishing 57% from the free throw line.
Taylor Tucker led Carver with 21 points.
The Lady Hawks will look to keep the momentum going next week as they continue non-conference play at Carson-Newman on Tuesday, November 21. Game time is set for 6:00pm from Jefferson City, Tenn.
