Cleveland, Tenn. --Â The Lady Hawks got back into the win column Saturday afternoon, topping longtime rival, Lee University 3-1, on the road.
With the win, Shorter improves to 10-6 on the season and 4-3 in the GSC; while the Flames moves to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, winning the first sets by 27-25 and 25-20 scores, respectively. Lee came back in the third set to cut the lead in half with a 25-18 win. Before, Shorter closed out the victory with a 25-22 win in set four.
Both teams tallied six service aces on the afternoon, while the Lady Hawks were dominant at the net with 13 blocks.
Tiffani Estep led the effort, posting a team high 12 kills with a game high 8 blocks. While,
Madeline Munroe added 11 kills and
Morgan Cleveland chipped in with 10.
Kelsi Jones added a game high, three aces, to go along with eight kills and five blocks.
On the receiving end,
Cheyenne McLemore finished the afternoon with 29 digs and was joined in double figures by Cleveland and Munroe with 13 and 12, respectively. At the net, Cleveland and
Danielle Melton each posted four blocks.
The Lady Hawks will look to keep the momentum going next weekend, October 13-14, as they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take part in the GSC/SSC Crossover Tournament. The full schedule has yet to be released, but will feature the top competition the South Region has to offer.
