ROME -- After coming back from a two-goal deficit and forcing overtime, the Hawks fell to West Florida 3-2, Friday evening from Ben Brady Field.
Shorter moves to 3-8 on the year and 2-4 in the Gulf South Conference with the loss; while the Argos improve to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
West Florida took an early lead, netting two goals just before halftime to make it a 2-0 game. After the break, however, the Hawks broke through as the Argos misplayed a ball into their own net on a
Timothy Dowd throw in the 51st minute. Before tying things up on
Jordan Etsio's third goal of the year moments later.
Chances were minimal in overtime, as Shorter took two – one in each period – and West Florida took three, including the game winner with 2:20 remaining in the frame.
In total, Shorter outshot the Argos 25-17; while UWF held a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Justen Macias posted 10 shots for the game; while
Sean Carpenter came up with seven saves.
The Hawks return to action Sunday afternoon when they host Spring Hill College for a 3:30pm start. Check back for updates due to the possibility of inclement weather.
