ROME, Ga – A 31.1% shooting night hurt the Lady Hawks, as they fell to West Florida, 76-54, Saturday afternoon.
West Florida's win improves its record to 10-2 and 5-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter drops to 4-7 and 3-3 in conference. The Argos now own a 4-2 record in games against Shorter and are undefeated at the Winthrop-King Centre. Â

Taylor Adams scored the Lady Hawks first six points of the game, tying the contest at six with 3:57 remaining in the first period.
After UWF took a four-point lead, freshman
Roni Richardson pulled SU within one, but at the end of the first, Shorter trailed 12-9.
It was a high scoring second period as the two teams put up a combined 44 points. The Lady Hawks never led in the period, but managed to stay close via baskets by
Raven Fair and
Jackie Hudson.
Brittany Greene and Adams helped the Lady Hawks cut the Argonauts lead to a single point, but West Florida used a 10-2 run over the final 3:56 to take a 38-29 lead at the half.
UWF jumped out to a 15-point lead early in the third quarter before
Kayla Tillie cut it to 12 with a three-pointer.
Tillie's three proved to be one of the last good things to happen to the Lady Hawks in the quarter as the Argos led by as many as 22 points with 1:33 remaining before Richardson and Adams scored four straight points for Shorter.
At the end of three quarters, the Lady Hawks trailed, 58-40.
In the fourth,
BreAnna Thompson and
Alexis Luster scored four of Shorter's first five points to cut a 19-point West Florida lead to 15, but the Argos took their largest lead of the contest at 23 points with 3:07 to go.
Junior
Jordan McCarver hit two threes in the final minutes, while
Brittany Greene added one, but West Florida managed three three's of its own, defeating the Lady Hawks, 76-54.
Adams led all players with 22 points, with 19 coming in the first half. Hudson and McCarver each scored six for Shorter. Toni Brewer led West Florida with 20, one of three players the visitors had in double figures.
The Argos stayed hot from the field throughout the game, shooting 51.6%, while Shorter hit only 31.1% of its attempts. One of the biggest differences came from beyond the arc, where the Lady Hawks shot 7 of 23, compared to just 5 of 8 for West Florida.
Shorter looks to snap a two-game skid on Monday, when the Valdosta State Lady Blazers visit Rome. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. from the Winthrop-King Centre.
