Volleyball keeps win streak alive with wins at MC & CBU

The Lady Hawks continued their perfect streak this week as they travelled to Mississippi College and Christian Brothers for two Gulf South Conference matches; winning both by 3-1 scores.

Against the Lady Choctaws of MC, Shorter earned the win with set scores of 27-25, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-22. While, against the Lady Bucs of CBU, the Lady Hawks took the match with scores of 25-18, 25-17, 19-25 and 25-23.

Elizabeth Dowd led the attack against MC, turning in 17 kills on the night; while BreAnna Thompson posted 12 and Madeline Munroe added 10. Cheyenne Frady dished out 33 assists in the effort and Alli Bell turned in 19 to aid in the win. Frady also added to her aces total with four on the night to bring her season total to 14.

On defense, Dowd posted a team high 28 digs for the night. Cheyenne McLemore came up with 18 for Shorter and Morgan Cleveland added 15 in the win. At the net, Tiffani Estep had a hand in three blocks – two solo – and Alicia McClellan and Dowd got a piece of two.

Munroe led the Shorter offense against CBU, posting a team high 12 kills for the night. While, Dowd and Thompson added 10 kills and Estep turned in 9. Frady finished the night in Memphis with 34 assists and Bell added 21 for the visitors. Hannah Flack brought her season total of aces to 12 with two on Tuesday night.

Dowd recorded a team high 29 digs in the win, while McLemore finished with 20 and Cleveland added 10. Kelsi Jones finished four blocks on the night – two solo and two assisted; while Dowd and Flack recorded two each.

The Lady Hawks will return to Rome for a three game set beginning Friday, September 16, against No. 23 North Alabama; who like Shorter has begun the season undefeated. The home stand continues Saturday, September 17, against Alabama Huntsville and finishes up Tuesday, September 20, against Union.
