Lady Hawks fall to Chestnut Hill

ROME -- The Lady Hawks fell to Chestnut Hill Friday afternoon, 17-7, to being a three game, Spring Break slate.

Shorter slips to 1-5 overall; while the Griffins improve to 1-2 on the season.

Chestnut Hill jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Lady Hawks got on the board when Crystal Marshall netted her first goal of the game with 23:03 to play in the opening half. Only to have the Griffins answer minutes later with back-to-back goals to make it a 5-1 game. Tiffany Kongpachith got in on the scoring for the Lady Hawks at the 13:11 mark when she netted a pass from Ashley Nuqui to cut into the Chestnut Hill's lead and make it a 5-2 game. Through the final ten minutes the Griffins added three goals, while Shorter countered with two of their own as Marshall and McKinley Puckett each scored in the half's final minute to take an 8-4 game into the break.

The teams traded goals to open the second half with Aubrey Geiger tallying her first career goal at the 25:26 mark. Chestnut Hill then used a 4-0 run to pull away and make it a 13-5 game halfway through the frame. Shorter's Kari Chambers broke the scoreless streak for the Lady Hawks with 14:16 to go with her first goal of the game. But, Chestnut Hill was right there to keep the momentum in their favor adding four more goals, before Chambers posted a final goal for Shorter with 1:23 to go for the 17-7 final score.

In total, the Griffins outshot the Lady Hawks 29-17, and held a 25-14 lead in shots on goal. While, also leading in ground balls 33-28. Shorter, however, won 15 draws to Chestnut Hill's 10 and led in saves 8-7.

Individually, Marshall tallied two goals to go along with seven draw controls and four ground balls. Chambers also added two goals with five ground balls and three draws. Kongpachith finished with a goal and five ground balls, while Tayler Ferqueron caused three turnovers.

Shorter will be on the road for two games in Florida this coming week. First, on Sunday vs. Slippery Rock, before taking on Florida Southern on Wednesday.
