Birmingham, Ala. -- The Hawks swept the non-conference doubleheader with Miles Wednesday afternoon; winning the first game 14-1 in five innings and taking the second game 8-2.
Game One was all Shorter, as the Hawks scored 14 runs on 12 hits with four extra base hits.
Kameron Carter got the scoring started in the first when she notched her seventh homerun of the year to left centerfield with
Kendall Johnson and
Niki Cook on base; giving Shorter a 3-0 lead after one inning. In the second the Hawks added two it with six runs as
Tiffany Holland, Johnson and Carter each tallied two RBI hits – Carter's her second homer in as many at bats – to bring the lead to 9-0.
In the fourth, Shorter added a run as
Dani Lukas singled to right center, pinch hitting for
Ericka Bynum, to plate Johnson and make it a 10-0 game. Before adding to it with four runs in the fifth. With two outs, Cook delivered a single through the left side to put runners at first and second, Holland then followed with a single to right field, and Johnson chipped in with a single of her own to centerfield – bringing in
Carson Carriker and Cook. Carter was then intentionally walked, to load the bases, and Lukas followed with a 2 RBI single scoring Johnson and Holland to make it a 14-0 game.
Miles' lone run of the contest came as Madison Westbrook brought in Aishawrya Smith on a sacrifice in the bottom of the fifth for the 14-1 final score.
Payton Lippert earned the win, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts through five innings of work.
Carter was 2-2 in the game – both homeruns – with five RBI, Johnson posted a 3-3 game at the plate with four RBI, and Lukas finished 2-2 with three RBI.
Carter, once again, put the Hawks on the board in the first inning of Game Two as she delivered an RBI double to right center to bring in
Niki Cook; who lead off the game with a single. She then came in one batter later as
Peyton Barthel added an RBI single to left center to make it a 2-0 game. Shorter added two more in the second when Holland delivered an RBI single through the right side to bring in
Taylor Martin, and Carter drew a bases loaded walk for the 4-0 score.
Miles broke through in the third with a run on two hits, and added to it with a run in the fifth as Kendreuna McPherson scored on a fielder's choice to cut the Hawks lead in half, 4-2.
In the sixth, however, Shorter tacked on three runs to bring their lead to 7-2 as Holland came in on an error by the catcher on a failed pickoff attempt, and Johnson scored on a single from Barthel. Carriker scored the game's final run in the seventh as she came in on a steal for the 8-2 final score.
Hannah Draper recorded the win, allowing two runs – one earned – on three hits with five strikeouts through seven innings of work.

The Hawks will be back in action this weekend as they take on West Georgia in a three game Gulf South Conference series in Carrollton, Ga. Games are set to begin at 1:00 PM EST each day.
