Clearwater, Fla. -- Scheduled to play two games Saturday, the Hawks had to settle for just one as rain set in an altered the schedule for the remaining games. But, Shorter made the most of the game it did have, downing Lynn 2-1 to get back in the win column and move to 2-1 on the year.
The Hawks got things going in the fourth as
Ericka Bynum singled to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on a sacrifice, before coming in on a single from
Peyton Barthel to put Shorter on the board 1-0. Barthel delivered again in the sixth with an RBI single to center to bring in
Kameron Carter; who's singled to start the inning, bringing Shorter's lead to 2-0. Lynn (3-3), however, managed to break the shut out with a run in the seventh inning for the 2-1 final score.
Hannah Draper earned her second win of the year, allowing one run on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts through 6.1 innings of work. While,
Kalei Kimbrell recorded the save after facing four batters in the seventh, allowing a hit and walk with one strikeout.
Barthel finished the day 2-3 with her first two RBI of the year.
Shorter will return to action Sunday morning at 9:00am against Florida Southern.
