No. 8 North Alabama hands Hawks first GSC losses

ROME -- The Hawks hot streak at home came to an end Saturday as No. 8 North Alabama handed Shorter a pair of Gulf South Conference losses; taking the opener 3-0 and the finale 8-1.

Shorter slips to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the GSC; while the Lions move to 20-4 on the season and 6-2 in conference play.

North Alabama got on the board in the third inning of game one as Reagan Tittle reached on an error that brought in Bailey Nelson, and added to with two unearned runs in the sixth inning for the 3-0 final score.

Payton Lippert took the loss, her second of the season to move to 3-2 on the year, allowing four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Despite the loss, she extended her streak of innings without an earned run to 26 as each of the Lions' three runs were scored on errors to drop her ERA to 0.44.

Shorter scored first in game two, to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Niki Cook scored on a sacrifice fly from Kendall Johnson, but that was the only run the Hawks would muster as they were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Lions, however, used three homeruns – two from Mackenzie Roberts – on the day to earn the win 8-1.

Hannah Draper recorded the loss for Shorter, her first of the year to move to 3-1 on the season; allowing four runs on six hits with two walks through 2.1 innings of work.
Cook went 2-5 on the day with two walks and four stolen bases.

Shorter will look to get back in the win column Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series. Game time is set for 1:00pm at Alto Park.
