ROME -- Five Hawks scored for Shorter Saturday afternoon in a 19-7 loss to Lindenwood at Ben Brady Field.
The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the game, but
Matt Kristiansen answered for the Hawks with a score with 5:21 to play to make it a 3-1 game. In the final minutes of the frame both teams added a goal to take a 4-2 game into the second half. Shorter's (1-2) goal came from
Alex Malinowski, his second goal of the season.
In the second period, Lindenwood (1-0) pulled away scoring five times – four from Josh Coons – while the Hawks added two goals for a 9-4 score, Jodan Getz and
Aswan Bland on a pass from
James VandenBrink did the damage for the Hawks.
Shorter, once again, added two goals in the third quarter, while the Lions scored six times to put the game away. Before adding four goals in the final fifteen minutes and keeping the Hawks to one. Kristiansen score both in the second quarter, while
Zachery Dirkse added the score for Shorter in the fourth.
Joshua Skinner went 13-22 on face-offs for the day, while collecting ten groundballs. And,
Garry Robinson tallied 12 saves for Shorter in goal.
In total, the Lions only held a narrow advantage in shots in the game, 37-35; while placing 31 on target to 21 for Shorter.
The Hawks will be back in action Saturday, February 27, when they welcome St. Leo University to Ben Brady Field for a 1:00pm start.
