Lady Hawks fall to Roberts Wesleyan, 21-10

ROME -- The Lady Hawks fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 21-10, on a cold and rainy Monday afternoon at Ben Brady Field.

The Redhawks (1-0) jumped out to the lead early in the game, scoring three consecutive goals over the first four minutes of play. But, Shorter (0-2) answered with three of their own to tie the game with 21:51 to play in the first half. Tiffany Kongpachith and Allie Perry tallied their first career goals, while Rita Cave chipped in with her second in as many games.

With the game tied at three, Roberts Wesleyan pulled away, turning in a 6-0, 17 minute run to make it a 9-3 game with just over four minutes remaining. In the final minutes each team added a goal take a 10-4 game into the intermission with McKinley Puckett posting her first goal of the game for the Lady Hawks.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Shorter cut the lead to as little as four on back-to-back goals from Crystal Marshall and Perry, but that was as close as they'd get the remainder of the game as the RedHawks added eleven goals in the second half. Puckett added three goals for the Lady Hawks during the frame for a season/career high, four goals in the game; three of which were assisted by Marshall. Kari Chambers also added a score for Shorter as she found the back of the net for the first time this season on a pass from Marshall at the 2:05 mark in the half.

Roberts Wesleyan outshot Shorter 42-25 in the game, and held a slim advantage in ground balls 37-32. While the Lady Hawks won 17 draws to the RedHawks' 14.

Catherine Mitchner played the complete game in goal for Shorter, making 16 saves.

Shorter will look to get into the win column Saturday as they host Coker College for a 1:00pm start at Ben Brady Field.
