Pensacola, Fla. -- The Lady Hawks saw their season come to an end Saturday afternoon falling to North Alabama in straight sets, 3-0, in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Shorter ends the year with a 22-7 overall record and a 17-3 mark in conference play.
In the opening frame the teams traded points, with neither able to put together more than two at a time. Until UNA tallied a 5-0 run, with the game tied at 10, to bring the score 15-10. And, after trading points again, the Lady Hawks posted three straight to tie the game at 22 on blocks from
Tiffani Estep,
BreAnna Thompson and
Kelsi Jones and kills from
Hannah Flack and Thompson. But, the Lions were able to take the win by posting back-to-back points for the 26-24 win.
In the second set, Shorter jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to kills from
Madeline Munroe and Thompson and an ace from
Cheyenne Frady, but the Lions came back; ultimately tying the match at 12, before making a 5-0 run to pull ahead 17-12. From there the closest the Lady Hawks would get would be six, as UNA held on the take the set 25-18.
In the final frame, the Lions went up 3-1, and extended their lead to 9-2 on a 6-1 run. And, made it a 17-4 game with eight straight points after a kill from
Elizabeth Dowd and an ace from
Alli Bell brought the score to 9-4. UNA then closed out the win, by taking the set 25-10.
Dowd posted a team high nine kills on the afternoon; while Estep chipped in with eight and Thompson added seven. Frady, McLemore and Bell each had one service ace in match. And, Frady tallied 18 assists, to Bell's 13.
McLemore was the lone Lady Hawk to reach double-figures in digs with 11, while Dowd just missed the double-double with nine digs. At the net, Estep led with four blocks – all assisted; whereas Jones posted two solo and Thompson finished with one solo and two assists.
