Hawks close out season with 44-0 loss at VSU

Valdosta, Ga. -- The Hawks closed out the 2016 year with a fifth straight shut-out, falling to Valdosta State 44-0. 

On the game Shorter was held to just 75 yards of total offense; while the home team rolled up 603 yards of their own.

The Hawks (0-11, 0-8 GSC) defense held strong through the first half, forcing the Blazers (8-2, 6-2 GSC) to settle for field goals on three of their drives, coming up with big stops in the Valdosta redzone. The Blazers made the most of those attempts, however, sending all three through the uprights. While, also adding two of their five touchdowns on the night before the break to take a 23-0 advantage into halftime. Valdosta tacked their final three touchdowns in the third quarter, and the Hawks held them scoreless in the fourth for the 44-0 final score.

On offense, Devante James played his final game as a Hawk; completing 5 of 19 passes for 22 yards. 

Joseph Ross led in receiving yards on the night with 13 on one reception; while Carter Christian added 12 on two receptions.

Alex McGhee turned in over half of the Hawks yards for the game, with 40 yards on seven carries; averaging 5.7 yards per carry. While, Demerious Owensby added 18 yards on 13 carries and Dante Borders chipped in with 15 yards on two carries.

On defense, the Hawks had three players finish with 11 or more tackles. Senior, Willy Dorcin made the most of his final game, turning in 13 tackles - all solo - with an interception. While, Jevaris Jones and Justin Fillmore each added 11 - seven solo, four assisted.

"I couldn't be prouder of the way our seniors played all season," head coach Aaron Kelton commented after the game. "They went out there every game and every practice and worked hard, setting the standard for our younger guys."
