VALDOSTA, Ga. –
Madison Morlock and
Chanel Mosley both scored goals as the Lady Hawks ended their 2016 season with a 2-2 tie against the Valdosta State Lady Blazers.
Valdosta State concludes its season with a 1-11-5 overall record while Shorter finishes 1-14-2. The Lady Blazers went 1-7-4 in Gulf South Conference action compared to 0-10-2 for the Lady Hawks.
Madison Morlock gave Shorter a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, scoring her second goal of the season off an assist from
Taylor Hendrix. The Lady Blazers had five chances to score after Morlock's goal, but
Alden Powell saved two of the five attempts, while the other three tries were unsuccessful.
Just three minutes after halftime Valdosta State took a 2-1 lead thanks to two goals in just over ten seconds, but Mosley found the equalizer minutes later, putting a header into the back of the net to even the score at two.
The Lady Hawks had four chances to score the go-ahead goal but attempts by
Corrie Thomas,
Alexa Moore, and Hendrix were all saved, and the game went into extra time.
Sydney Durham, playing in relief of Powell, made three saves in the overtime periods to prevent a Valdosta State victory.
Shorter had three chances to win in the extra periods, including a shot by
Maggie Pruitt with only 42 seconds remaining. Pruitt's shot was high of the net and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Valdosta State outshot SU 17-14, but the Lady Hawks held a 9-2 advantage in corners.
For Shorter, Powell played 80 minutes and made six saves, while Durham saved three shots in 30 minutes of action. Alyssa Curtis made seven saves for the Lady Blazers.
