Box Score ROME -- The Lady Hawks officially secured their spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon when they swept Valdosta State, 3-0, and then moved into a tie with North Alabama for the top spot in the GSC standings when Lee topped West Florida 3-2 later in the afternoon.
Shorter improves to 18-6 overall and 13-3 in conference play; while the Blazers slipped to 12-13 on the season and 8-7 in the GSC.
The Lady Hawks made quick work of Valdosta State turning set scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-12 respectively.
On the game Shorter held the visitors to a miniscule .009 hitting percentage; while tallying a .255 percentage of their own. The Lady Hawks also added ten total blocks on the afternoon with
Kelsi Jones leading the effort with five – one solo and four assisted – while both,
Tiffani Estep and
Elizabeth Dowd, chipped in with three.
Dowd and Estep each turned in eight kills on the afternoon to lead the team, to go along with six each from Jones and
BreAnna Thompson.
Cheyenne Frady recorded 17 assists and
Alli Bell added 10.
On the receiving end,
Morgan Cleveland was the lone Lady Hawk to reach double figures in digs with 11; while Dowd added nine and
Cheyenne McLemore and Frady added eight each.
Shorter will return to action on the road Tuesday, November 1, at West Georgia. Game time is set for 7:00pm in Carrollton, Ga.
