Hawks fall to Emmanuel, 3-2

Cleveland, Tenn. -- The Hawks came up just short Saturday afternoon, falling to Emmanuel 3-2 in the final game of the Lee University Olive Garden Invitational.

Shorter dominated play on offense during the first half, recording 8 shots while holding the Lions to one, but neither team could net the go ahead as the game was scoreless at the half.

After the break, the teams then had to endure a lengthy weather delay, but once play resumed both teams were eager to pull ahead. Emmanuel did just that in the 63rd minute on the first goal of the day by Mark Shrosbree, but the Hawks answered seven minutes later on the first goal of the year from Mauricio Rancel. The teams then traded goals as Shrosbree scored again for the Lions, and Fernando De Barros chipped in with a goal for Shorter in the 73rd and 76th minutes, respectively. Blair Springhall broke stalemate and gave Emmanuel the win with an open shot on the 'keeper with 10 minutes to play in the game.

In total the Hawks outshot the Lions, 20-7.

Austen Trevers played the complete game in the goal for Shorter, making one save.

The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday, September 9, when they travel to Anderson, S.C. for a 5:00pm start. Fans unable to attend the game can follow all the action live at www.goshorterhawks.com.
