ROME --Â West Alabama took the first two games of the three game series with the Hawks Friday afternoon. Game scores were 15-0 and 5-3, respectively.
Shorter (13-14, 9-11 GSC) kept game one within reach until the seventh inning where the Tigers pulled away. Leading 2-0, West Alabama (25-8, 17-5 GSC) tacked on six runs in the inning before added seven more in the eighth for the 15-0 final score.
In game two, the Hawks got things going, scoring the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI double from
Zach Santos. The Tigers answered in the fourth with two runs to take the lead, 2-1, and added to it with a run in the sixth.
George Ragsdale homered in the bottom of the sixth, plating
Brian Cabrera to tie the game 3-3. Only to have the Tigers score twice in the seventh to earn the win 5-3.
Santos finished the day with four hits – two in each game – to lead the Hawks. Ragsdale and Cabrera each tallied three on the day.
Shorter will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for the final game of the series, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.Â
