Hawks split regular season finale with North Alabama

Florence, Ala. -- The Hawks split the final doubleheader of the regular season Sunday afternoon; taking the opener 5-4, before falling in the finale 2-0.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Shorter answered in the fifth with four runs to take the lead. George Ragsdale got things going with an RBI single to plate Jake Harrelson. Dylan Riner then scored on a fielder's choice, and Dustin Lawson followed with a 2 RBI double to make it a 4-1 game. In the sixth the Lions came back, tying the game 4-4. Lawson then delivered the game winner in the ninth, an RBI single to plate Brian Cabrera to give Shorter the win 5-4.

Brandon Reynolds earned the win after coming on in relief of Russell Crosby in the sixth. Through 3.2 innings of work he allowed no runs on two hits with two strikeouts.

North Alabama got all the offense it would need to earn the win 2-0 in the third inning on RBI hits from Brett Guzay and Dylan Boston.

Colton Cross took the loss for Shorter; allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts through a complete game, six inning performance.

Lawson finished the day with four hits and three RBI, while Riner, Mathews and Ragsdale added two hits each.

Shorter will now turn its attention the National Christian College Athletic Association where they will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic for the South Region tournament May 7-9.
