Hawks fall to Emmanuel

ROME -- The Hawks took to the field for the third consecutive day Monday afternoon, taking on Emmanuel College in a doubleheader hosted at State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves. The Lions won the opener 4-2 and the finale 8-4.

Emmanuel got on the board first in game one, scoring twice in the first inning on an error by Dylan Riner and added to it in the second on a single from Trent Jones to make it a 3-0 game. Shorter cut into the lead in the fifth as Ian Redetzky scored on a single from Brian Cabrera. Both teams added a run in seventh for the 4-2 final score with the Hawks run coming on a solo homer from Redetzky.

Justin Machado took the loss for the Hawks, allowing four runs – all unearned – on nine hits with eight strikeouts through a complete game performance.

Shorter struck first in the second game as Redetzky delivered an RBI single in the first inning to plate Riner, and in the third added to it when Riner scored a fielder's choice from Redetzky with the bases loaded. Emmanual scored five times in the fourth to take the lead 5-2, but Shorter answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs to make it a 5-4 game. The Lions went on to add two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 8-4 final score.

Brandon Reynolds took the loss for Shorter, allowing five runs – four earned – on four hits with three strikeouts through 3.2 innings of work.

Redetzky finished the day 4-6 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.
