Lady Hawks take one at Lee

Cleveland, Tenn. --The Lady Hawks took one from longtime rival Lee University this weekend; winning the series finale, 3-1, Sunday afternoon.

After falling to the Lady Flames 3-2 and 5-2 Saturday afternoon, Shorter bounced back Sunday to avoid the sweep, and improve to 20-8 on the year and 10-7 in the Gulf South Conference.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the Lady Hawks took a 1-0 lead on a solo homerun from Kameron Carter and Janell Echols followed later in the inning with a RBI single to plate Abi Valdes to bring the advantage to 2-0. Paige Rowland made it a 3-0 game in the top of the seventh with a solo homerun of her own. NiaRaye Ceasar broke the shutout from Shorter with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning for the 3-1 final score.

Maddie Bray earned the win for the Lady Hawks; throwing a complete game. Through seven innings of work she allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts en route to the win.

Shorter will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Gulf South Conference newcomer, Mississippi College, for a three game series. Games are set for 2:00pm and 4:00pm eastern Saturday, and 3:00pm eastern Sunday.
