TAMPA -- The Lady Hawks fell to the University of Tampa Saturday afternoon, 21-6, on the road.
Shorter falls to 3-5 on the year; while the Spartans improve to 5-6 overall.
After Tampa took the lead 1-0 in the opening minutes, the Lady Hawks answered to take the advantage 2-1 as
Crystal Marshall and
Shelby Beverly netted back to back goals at 27:01 and 20:38, respectively. The Spartans regained the lead at Amanda Voges sparked a 4-0 run to regain and extend their lead to 5-2. Beverly then tallied two consecutive goals midway through the period to cut into the lead; only to have Tampa net 12 unanswered goals to take a 17-4 advantage with 17:08 to play in the game. Marshall scored twice in the final half of the second frame to close out the scoring for Shorter; while the Spartans added four goals for the 21-6 final score.
Both, Beverly and Marshall, finished with three goals each; while
Ashley Nuqui and Marshall chipped in with an assist each.
Nicole Kube played most of the game in goal for Shorter; making 11 saves on 32 shots faced.
In total, Tampa outshot the Lady Hawks 38-16, and held a 32-13 advantage in shots on goal; while both teams scooped up 22 ground balls.
Shorter will return to action Tuesday, March 24, as they travel to Due West, S.C. for a 4:00pm game at Erskine.
