Hawks top Albany State, 6-3

ROME -- The Hawks topped Albany State, 6-3, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at the Ledbetter Baseball Complex.

Shorter improves to 7-8 on the season; while the Rams fall to 3-19 overall.

Zach Santos got things going for the Hawks in the first inning as he score on a wild pitch. And, in the fourth, Shorter took advantage of a couple Albany State errors to extend its lead to 5-0. Ian Redetzky started the scoring as he came in to score on a throwing error from the pitcher. Jake Harrelson then drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Patrick Sanderson. Tyler Trenary, who'd reached base on a single earlier in the inning, scored on a fielder's choice from Brinan Cabrera and Dustin Lawson rounded out the scoring for the Hawks in the inning; scoring on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Cato.

The Rams broke the shutout in the seventh, as Hector Carrasquillo delivered a 2 RBI single. Santos made it a 6-2 game in the bottom of the inning; scoring on a balk. Albany State's Emmanuel Santos brought in Jeremy Arrington in the ninth on an RBI single for the 6-3 final score.

Brantley Flanagan recorded the win for Shorter; allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts in two innings of relief.

Trenary and Harrelson each delivered two hits for the Hawks on the day.

Shorter will be back in action Sunday and Monday, March 15-16, as they welcome conference foe West Georgia to the Ledbetter Baseball Complex. Sunday's doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00pm, while Monday's single game will begin at 1:00pm.
