Lady Hawks sweep Flagler

St. Augustine, Fla. -- The Lady Hawks closed out the road trip Wednesday afternoon with a two game sweep of Flagler College; taking game one 6-4 and game two 8-5.

The wins improve Shorter to 16-6 on the year, while the Saints fall to 5-18.

Carson Carriker gave the Lady Hawks the lead in the second inning of the opener on and RBI double to plate Paige Rowland. Flagler then tied the game in the third inning on an RBI single from Malloree Escue. Maggie Meacham put Shorter back up in the fourth on a 2-run homer, before the Saints scored once in both the fifth and seventh to tie the game.

In the eighth, the Lady Hawks scored three times to regain the lead and earn the win. Niki Cook led off the scoring with an RBI single, and then scored along with Meacham on a throwing error later in the inning. Flagler added a run in the bottom of the inning for the 8-4 final score.

Meacham got things going in the first inning for the Lady Hawks in game two with as she brought in Carriker on a ground out. Kendall Johnson then made it a 2-0 game on a solo homerun to center field. In the bottom of the inning, the Saints cut the lead in half on a homerun from Mackenzie Conley. Janell Echols and Abi Valdes delivered RBI singles in the second to extend the lead for Shorter to 4-1. However, in the bottom of the inning Flagler scored twice to cut the lead back to one.

Shorter pulled away in the fifth inning with three runs to take a 7-3 lead as Rowland turned in an RBI single and Kameron Carter connected on a 2-run homer to left field. Escue homered in the sixth to make it a 7-4 game, before the Lady Hawks closed out the win, 8-4, in the seventh as Johnson stole home as part of a double steal with Cook.

Amanda Blanchard earned the win in both game to improve to 8-1 on the season. In game one she allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. While, in game two allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout also in 3.2 innings of work. Kalei Kimbrell recorded the save in game two; allowing no runs on one hit in two innings of work.

Shorter will return to conference play Saturday and Sunday as West Georgia visits Alto Park. Game times are set for 1:00pm each day with doubleheader Saturday.
