Lady Hawks fall to Tusculum

ROME -- The Lady Hawks fell to Tusculum College Tuesday afternoon, 12-7.

Shorter moves to 1-3 on the season; while the Pioneers improve to 5-1.

Shelby Beverly gave the Lady Hawks the lead 1-0 as she netted her first goal of the game with 28:35 on the clock. Tusculum answered four minutes later to tie the game on a goal from Erin Sims and took the lead with 21:11 to play on as Madison Malone found the back of the net. Kari Chambers tied the game, once again, with 20:08 to go. Over the next 12 minutes the teams traded the lead as Cheyenne Bray and Kelsey Crow scored for the Pioneers and Beverly and Erin Wynn netted goals for the Lady Hawks. Tusculum then closed out the frame with two consecutive goals to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.

Shorter cut the lead to one on a goal from Mia Wiggins at the 27:17 mark in the period, only to see Crow score three consecutive goals for the Pioneers to bring their advantage to 9-5. Beverly found the back of the net at 16:01 on an assist from Alex Abbey to make it a 9-6 game. Both teams were held scoreless for the next eleven minutes until Bray sparked a three goal run for Tusculum with 5:04 to go and brought the lead to 12-6. Beverly scored her final goal of the day with 0:18 on the clock for the 12-7 final score.

Beverly led the Lady Hawks with four goals in the game; while Wynn, Chambers, and Wiggins each chipped in with one a piece.

Tusculum outshot Shorter 27-20 and 23-14 in shots on goal. While also holding the slim advantage in ground balls 23-22.

Nicole Kube played the complete game in goal for the Lady Hawks; making 11 saves.

Shorter will be back in action Wednesday, March 11, as they take on Ursuline College at 6:00pm at Ben Brady Field.
