Last second layup gives Lady Hawks the win at UAH

Huntsville, Ala. -- After trading baskets and the lead the entire game, Ieshia Alexander delivered a layup as time expired to give the Lady Hawks the win 59-58 at Alabama Huntsville Saturday afternoon.

In the final minutes, the score was back and forth as the teams traded the lead and free throws; with 0:40 to go, UAH (10-13, 7-10 GSC) tied the game, converting one of two free throws. Seconds later Jackie Hudson was fouled, but missed the front end of a one and one to hold the stalemate, before Chandler Elder put the Chargers up by one with 0:07 to play with a free throw of her own. Alexander then delivered the heroics, with a layup as time expired to give Shorter the win and season sweep of UAH.

The Lady Hawks turned in a balanced effort against the Chargers with Shaundricka Mann turning in a team high 15 points. Both Alexander and Tamarr Williams added nine points in the win; while Hudson, Madison Rice and Lindsey Crawford each recorded eight points.

Shorter (10-13, 7-10 GSC) shot 39% in the game; while UAH shot 41% and finished with three players in double-figures. Dina Saunders led with a game high 18 points, Josi Saunders chipped in with 15, and Elder added 11.

The Lady Hawks will look to keep the momentum going Thursday, February 12, as they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to take on the West Georgia. In the last meeting of the teams, Shorter topped the Wolves 78-72 in overtime at the Winthrop-King Centre.
