Huntsville, Ala. --Â The Hawks fell to Alabama Huntsville, 70-58, Saturday afternoon to split the season series with the Chargers.
Shorter moves to 16-7 on the season and 11-6 in conference play; while UAH improves to 17-6 overall and 12-5 in the GSC and moves into sole possession of first place in the standings.
In the opening minutes of the game the teams traded the lead, but the Chargers began pulling away at the midway point and didn't look back taking a 33-19 advantage into the break. Shorter began chipping away in the second half, however, and cut the lead to as little as five after posting a 10-0 run part way through the frame. Only to see UAH answer with a run of their own to regain the momentum and secure the win.
The Hawks had three players just miss double-doubles in the game.
Kordario Fleming posted a game high 24 points to go along with 9 rebounds.
Dedric Ware added 14 points and 9 assists, and
Travis Jones chipped in with 9 points and 11 rebounds.
Jordan Jacks added 12 rebounds for Shorter.
UAH finished with four players in double-figures – Seab Webster (17), Ronnie Mack (15), Preston Herring (13), and Justin Ward (13).
The Hawks will look to get back in the win column Thursday, February 12, as they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to take on West Georgia. Shorter won the first meeting of the teams, 109-92.Â
