ROME -- Wrestling closed out the regular season with a sweep of Huntingdon last Saturday; topping the Hawks 54-0.
The win moves Shorter to 10-5 overall on the season in dual matches.
The Hawks opened the match with back to back pins to go up 12-0.
Ben Smith defeated Wade Thomas at 125 via fall in 2:32; while
Aldon Isenberg topped Robert Robillard in 1:51 at 133.
Colby Rinehart earned the win via forfeit to make it an 18-0 decision.
Nate Galloway and
Kannon Madden each recorded wins via fall at 149 and 157, respectively. Galloway in 1:40 and Madden on 1:56.
Wally Figaro then defeated Deon Maxwell at 165 via tech fall 15-0 to add five points and bring Shorter's advantage to 35-0.
Dalton Lane kept the sweep going at 174 by topping Jakeb Glaser due to injury in 3:40 to make it a 41-0 match.
Terrence Smith then earned the win 5-4 over Jesse Heron at 184, and was followed by
Chris Rowland topping John Williams via fall in 1:25 at 197.
Andrew Ewers rounded out the win for Shorter, 54-0, with a 16-6 major decision in the 285 match.
The Hawks will now turn their attention to postseason as they travel to Pembroke, N.C. to take part in the NCAA Super Region II Tournament February 27-28.
