ROME -- The Lady Hawks fell to No. 2 Valdosta State 13-1 Sunday afternoon.
Shorter moves to 6-2 on the season and 1-2 in conference play with the loss, while the Blazers improve to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the GSC.
Courtney Albritton got things going for Valdosta State in the first inning with a homerun to lead off the game, and Heather Robinson singled later in the inning to plate two, putting the Blazers up 3-0.
Shorter cut the lead in the bottom of the inning as 
Ericka Bynum delivered a sacrifice fly to bring in 
Niki Cook; who'd singled, stole second, and reached third on a single from 
Maggie Meacham.
Valdosta State added two runs in the second to extend their lead, before adding two in the fifth and six in the sixth for the 13-1 final score.
Kalei Kimbrell recorded the loss for the Lady Hawks; pitching two thirds of an inning, while allowing three runs on one hit with three walks. 
Amanda Blanchard came on in relief to pitch 4.1 innings; allowing four runs – one earned – on five hits with four strikeouts.
Shorter will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on Christian Brothers in a three game series. Games are set to begin at 2:00pm both days.
