Clinton, Miss. -- The Lady Hawks closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win at Mississippi College Saturday afternoon.
Shorter will enter the postseason with a 16-10 overall record and a 14-6 conference mark, and will serve as the fourth seed for next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament.
After falling in the first set, 25-15, the Lady Hawks came back to win the match with three straight set wins. Scores were 25-18, 25-23, and 25-21, respectively.
Three players finished with nine kills in the match –
Tiffani Estep,
Elizabeth Dowd, and
BreAnna Thompson.
Cheyenne Frady posted a match high 23 assists, while
Dena Pierce added 19 in the win.
Defensively,
Cheyenne McLemore led the effort, tallying 15 digs. Dowd added 13, and
Morgan Cleveland finished with 12. Shorter posted 10 blocks on the day, with
Alicia McClellan and Estep both recording 4 – 1 solo and 3 assisted.
The Lady Hawks will take on Alabama Huntsville Tuesday at 7:00pm eastern at the Winthrop-King Centre in the quarterfinal match of the GSC Tournament. The winner of the match will travel to Pensacola for the semifinals hosted by West Florida on November 21-22.
