Late run lifts Union over Lady Hawks

Jackson, Tenn. -- After a back and forth game, Union closed out the win with a late run to top the Lady Hawks 74-69 Saturday afternoon.

Shorter moves to 8-11 on the season and 4-9 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Lady Bulldogs take sole possession of first place in the GSC with an overall record of 15-2 and an 11-2 conference mark.

Up by one at the beak Lady Hawks looked to pull away in the second half and did just that using a 7-0 run halfway through the frame to take a 52-45 lead. But, Union answered with a 9-1 run to regain the advantage with 6:45 to play and capped off the win by outscoring Shorter 16-8 over the final four minutes.

The Lady Hawks finished with three players in double figures. Ieshia Alexander led with 24, Cynara Pitt added 13 and Lindsey Crawford chipped in with 12. Shaundricka Mann led the defense with a game and season high 13 rebounds for Shorter.

Amy Philamlee turned in a game high 34 points for Union to lead all scorers. While, Emily Sissom and Jaclissa Haislip each added 10.

The Lady Hawks will look to get back in the win column Thursday as Valdosta State visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a 6:00pm tip.
